Every company runs its own process, but entry-level hiring in India usually follows a similar sequence. Knowing the stages helps you prepare and spot anything that looks wrong.

1. Application

Through campus placement cells, company career portals, or official hiring drives. Always use the employer’s official channel — see how to spot fake job offers.

2. Online assessment

Common for large recruiters. It may include aptitude (quantitative, logical, verbal), technical questions or coding. Some companies use national tests — for example, see how TCS NQT works.

3. Group discussion (sometimes)

Used by some employers to assess communication and teamwork.

4. Technical and HR interviews

  • Technical: questions on your subjects, projects and the skills listed on your resume.
  • HR: your background, motivation, willingness to relocate, and questions about the company.

5. Offer letter

Read it carefully: role, location, salary structure, joining date and any conditions such as a service agreement. Ask HR if anything is unclear. You should not have to pay to receive an offer.

6. Background verification and joining

Employers usually verify education documents, identity and sometimes previous employment. Keep your mark sheets, degree certificate and ID ready, and make sure the details on your resume match them exactly.

Timelines

Joining dates for freshers can be several months after the offer, especially in IT services. Stay in touch with the employer through official emails and portals, and keep learning in the meantime.
