Coming back to work after a break can feel harder than finding your first job. Returnship and re-entry programmes exist to make that step easier: they are run by employers for people who already have work experience but stepped away for family, health, study or other reasons.
What is a returnship?
A returnship is a structured way back into the workforce. Details vary, but most combine a real role with extra support — orientation, mentoring, interview preparation or on-the-job learning. Some are fixed-term with a chance of a permanent offer; others are simply a route into regular vacancies. Always read the employer’s own page for the exact terms.
Amazon Rekindle
According to Amazon’s official Rekindle page, the programme is designed for women who have taken a career break of 12 months or more and are ready to return. Amazon says it helps applicants prepare for interviews and supports them through the hiring process, with mentorship and on-the-job learning after joining. Roles are listed on amazon.jobs.
TCS Rebegin
TCS describes Rebegin as an initiative for women professionals returning after a career break, applicable to India-based roles at TCS. Its official page states that applicants need at least two years of continuous work experience. You may have had more than one break, but you must state the duration and reason when applying, and you can apply even if you are currently working. TCS says selection is merit-based and follows its standard hiring process, and open roles are listed on the TCS Careers portal.

Other programmes to research
Several other large employers in India run re-entry programmes, and details change often. Search the careers page of companies you are interested in for terms such as “returnship”, “career restart” or “return to work”, and rely only on what the company itself publishes.
How to prepare
- Update your resume honestly. Show the break with dates and a one-line reason; see our guide to explaining a career gap.
- Refresh one or two core skills that appear in the job descriptions you are targeting.
- Prepare a short “why now” story — why you are returning and what you bring.
- Apply only via official portals. No genuine employer asks for money to process an application.
Programme rules, eligibility and availability can change without notice. Check the official pages before applying.
